“a ritual is, a ritual was” is a sonic reflection paying homage to all my past-present-future selves and how they have all been constructed through the space of the ritual. Something that feels inescapable to me is the amount of grief surrounding early rituals of my youth years such as the Purity Ball, which was something I participated in at the age of 13. Before, during, and after, there was a complex and residual grief surrounding that experience and something that has felt special is doing the magical work to transform this ritual space from that of surveillance into a tool of magic.
